A red eye flight and stopover later, it doesn’t take much for a few hours of disrupted sleep to show up on your face. Even if you’re not heading anywhere but to check into your hotel, a change in time zones takes your body a day or so to adjust, meaning those tell-tale signs of fatigue will follow close behind. Thankfully there are a few beauty tricks of the trade you can use to your advantage. To find out how to look like you’ve had a blissful sleep, we spoke to Grace Lee, Lead Makeup Artist for Maybelline New York Canada, who shares her advice on how to look fresh and pretty on the road.
Pick the Right Concealer
The wrong shade of concealer can do more damage than good when it comes to covering up those dark circles. “Most women use a concealer that’s too light for them, and they end up looking like a raccoon,” admits Lee. When picking your shade look for a concealer with a pink or peach tone, which will help off-set the blue.

De-Puff in a Flash
Airplane cabins are notoriously dehydrating — add in a glass of wine and lack of sleep — and you might end up walking off the plane looking like you’ve had a cry-fest. A cheap and easy remedy to try are cucumber slices. “They really do work!” says Lee. If not, cooled, camomile tea bags are another reliable option you can easily get in a hotel.
Brighten & Open
Using an illuminator under the eyes in a quick trick to quickly appear more awake. “I love Maybelline New York’s Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer,” shares Lee. “The concealer illuminates without creating a cakey texture.” Another tool that will help to create that wide-eyed look is an eyelash curler. A quick clamp and a few strokes of mascara will instantly open even the most tired eyes.

Switch the Focus
If all else fails, put the focus on another part of your face — like your lips! “My trick is using a bright vivid lipstick, like Maybelline New York ColorSensational Vivids Lipcolor.” says Lee. “The pop of colour on the lips takes the attention away from dead, tired eyes. It also instantly looks more glam and put together!”
