The Vibe: A chic retreat from the downtown bustle of Montreal, Loews Hotel Vogue exudes a sophisticated flair without any stuffiness. With $10 million in renovations completed in 2013, the modern updates have resulted in a glam-luxe lobby with eye-catching accents including a sparkling pendant chandelier, plush velvet seating and deco-inspired furniture. It’s also hard not to miss the gilded entrance-way to the elegant La Société bistro just steps from the elevators. The hotel draws in plenty of leisure travellers with shopping on the brain, thanks to its prime proximity to the city’s best boutiques.

The Facts: Tucked off the shopping-friendly drag of Rue Saint-Catherine and literally across the street from the high-end department store Ogilvy, location-wise it doesn’t get much better than this. For transportation, the city’s underground Metro is only a mere 5-minute walk away, and attractions such as The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Mont Royal park are also within walking distance. Featuring 142 guest rooms, including 16 suites, all rooms offer luxurious amenities such as Jacuzzi bath’s with their own flat screen TV, plush 300-count linens, 24-hour room service and complimentary Wi-Fi.

The Experience: Our first greeting was at the front entrance by the friendly doorman who greeted us from our cab, offering to whisk our luggage into the hotel. Arriving past dinner, meant the lobby was fairly quiet, resulting in a smooth and quick check-in. We headed up to our room, but ended up having a challenging time opening the door. So much so we had to call the front desk to get some help. Turns out it wasn’t our room key, but there was a trick to turning the handle — not ideal, but manageable.
We were booked into a Premium set-up which gave us two double-beds and much more space than we were expecting for a downtown hotel. At the end of each double-bed was a sofa and glass side table (as pictured above). There were tons of outlets for charging our devices, more than enough mirrors, including a full-length, a fully-stocked mini-bar, iDocking station and large flat screen TV. We also appreciated the two large benches that flanked the desk, allowing us to each have our own area to lay out our suitcases. Not only was the room itself spacious, but the bathroom was too. The large marble counter gave us each plenty of space to sprawl out our makeup, and though neither of us used it, an oversized Jacuzzi tub with a TV at the foot. The beds were very comfortable and each bed came with four plush pillows, so it certainly wasn’t hard to fall asleep.
We skipped breakfast at the hotel and didn’t return until late afternoon after a full-day of shopping. Upon returning happy hour was in full swing, with La Société bustling with an event, and the lobby bar starting to see some action. We freshened up and returned a little later to dine at La Société, for some Parisian-style bistro fare. The restaurant definitely draws in a larger breakfast and brunch crowd, but it’s a definite must not only for the atmosphere, but their custom-crafted cocktails, which are delicious.

Room to Book: A Luxury Suite is the perfect size for a party of four. There’s a king-sized bed, in addition to a pull-out couch. The extra space means you can enjoy some pre-dinner cocktails in your room too.
Insider Tip: If you are in need of a quick caffeine boost, be sure to make use of the hotel’s complimentary coffee machine in the lobby.
How to Get There: Montreal has one airport — the Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL), located 20 kilometres from the downtown core. The most popular and easiest way to get to your hotel is by taxi. A cab ride will take about 25-30 minutes depending on the time of day and traffic. Taxi’s offer a fixed fare of $40 to destinations in the downtown core.
