Even though we’ve stayed in some of the most spectacular hotels throughout our travels, only a select few actually take our breath away. That’s what happened when we drove up to the front of this Alentejo, Portugal hotel and vineyards.
You would hardly know you were just an hour outside of the bustle of Lisbon. But you are, and the hour-long drive to Evora is well worth the trek to rejuvenate. In the vast dessert-like plains and soft rolling hills, sits a secluded vineyard with an architectural dream of a hotel. L’and Vineyards, which officially opened its doors in May 2011, comes with only 22 suites (some of which are dubbed Sky Suites because you can view the stars while snoozing in your bed thanks to a retractable roof), so you know you’ll be able to unwind and relax in complete privacy. All suites and interiors were designed by the famed Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan.
Spend your afternoon pool side, get pampered in the luxe spa (we recommend the grape seeds full body scrub to really soothe and soften your skin), sip on wines produced from the vineyards, or take a day trip into the nearby small, historic town of Evora. Then finish up your day by dining on traditional Portuguese fare with a healthy and modern spin in the on-site restaurant.
You might want to book more than a night or two here, because the charm and beauty (not to mention super spacious suites) will make you want to continue relaxing for days on end (weeks, even).
