You can’t know fashion without knowing the iconic and glamorous work (and subjects) of renowned photographer Mario Testino. A regular contributor to Vogue and Vanity Fair, this fashion and portrait photographer is putting 122 of his larger-than-life images on display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston in an exhibition entitled “Mario Testino: In Your Face.”
Running from October 21, 2012 until February 3, 2013, the exhibit offers a provocative look into the subjects Testino has photographed over his incredible 30-year career including celebrities and models such as Kate Moss, Gisele Bündchen, Gwyneth Paltrow, Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman, Lady Gaga and David Beckham.
While you’re at the Museum of Fine Arts you might as well plan to see Testino’s second exhibition “Mario Testino: British Royal Portraits,” which is running from October 21, 2012 until June 16, 2013 in the Herb Ritts gallery.
Though he’s known for his elegant and provocative fashion images, he’s been photographing royals for quite some time now too. Most recently recognized for his engagement photos with Prince William and Catherine Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Testino has photographed many other members of British royalty including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and William’s mother Diana, Princess of Wales.
Surprisingly this happens to be the Peruvian-born photographer’s first U.S. exhibition and includes the first U.S. showing of many royal images. He celebrated in style during the opening reception on October 17 with a star-studded guest list, which included friends and supporters including Gisele Bündchen, Alessandra Ambrosio, Joan Smalls, Anna Wintour and Hamish Bowles.
We can’t imagine missing these exhibitions and are planning to check them out next time we’re in Boston.
