I’m writing this post 38,000 feet above the Gulf of Mexico, en route to my final destination of Cancun where I’ll be spending the next few days at the Paradisus Cancun. The resort just opened in November, it was formally the Grand Melia, so there should be a lot of exciting new features to experience.
It wasn’t hard to leave behind -15 degree Celsius weather in Toronto, although figuring out how to dress en route to the airport is always a challenge when you’re heading to a hot destination. I ended up wearing black skinny pants, a simple tee layered under a sweater, and boots, which I swapped out of and into a pair of flats before I went into the airport (the perks of having your fiancé drive you). Plus I wore a scarf (always a must!) and my worn-in leather jacket.
I always check my luggage, since I haven’t mastered the carry-on only yet like Jenn, throwing in essentials like a maxi skirt and dress, flip flops, two swimsuits, and a few basic tees (my favourite are from Club Monaco – they are so soft and fit a bit loose). I also threw in some jewellery from Joe Fresh (expensive jewels are better left at home), a gold clutch from Coach (goes with everything) and my workout stuff (I’m really hoping to get a game of tennis in).
Carry-on wise my Longchamp was pretty packed. For this trip I filled my clear beauty bag with musts including lip balm, hand cream and blotting tissues. I always carry a notebook and pen, my iPod, sunglasses and also brought a magazine along, because I’m way behind on my subscriptions right now. I also like to keep my electronic stuff organized, so I put everything in this cute NET-A-PORTER pouch I got when I purchased my iPhone case. And just in case I like to carry some Emergen C and snack bars (I like the Simply Bar).
What are some of your carry-on essentials?
