At the end of last year, Air Canada unveiled it’s new leisure carrier airline Air Canada Rouge. With flights beginning July 1, 2013, they’re just weeks away from taking flight. In preparation for take off, Air Canada Rouge put on a fashion show, revealing the flight attendants new Canada-made uniforms and complementary makeup look.
The airline worked with Montreal’s VF Imagewear to create the uniforms, with a palette that incorporates the airline’s signature hues. Burgundy is the stand-out colour, with both the men and women wearing the shade in either a cardigan, vest or zip-up sweater. The bottom half of the outfit is a pair of simple grey trousers, while the accessories are a bit more cheerful. The men get to wear criss-cross patterned ties, while the women don a vintage-inspired neck scarf that spells out Rouge. To top off the look, the attendants have the option to wear a grey pinstripe fedora — however it can only be worn in the airport or while they board or deplane.
Attention was also paid to the attendants footwear too. Designed by Vancouver-based John Fluevog, the men will be sporting grey leather shoes with red laces, with the women get a funky pair of Mary Jane’s, also in grey leather with red buckles.
The fashion, however was only part of the airline’s new look. Maybelline New York has announced they will be collaborating with the 150 new flight attendants to help with training and make-up styling kits to allow them to create a distinct look. “The Air Canada Rouge beauty look is clean and fresh,” said Grace Lee, Maybelline New York Canada’s lead makeup artist. “With a bright lip as the central statement, its on-trend, but super wearable.”
Beauty-wise the details came right down to the women’s nail polish, with the pale shade of pink “Born With It,” being the chosen shade for the flight attendants.

There hasn’t been a consensus on the new uniforms yet, with reviews ranging from “Glee-cast-meets-Justin-Timberlake,” to “look’s like a TTC driver’s outfit,” we however do agree it’s a younger looking uniform, but while it’s not as glamorous as some other airlines uniforms, they are a low-cost carrier, so in this instance, casual might just be a better approach. Plus we can’t argue the fresh and pretty makeup.
