As museum and fashion lovers, we’re never ones to miss a fashion exhibition. It seems that we’re not the only ones either, as smaller, local museums are taking note, including the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston who is launching their first-ever fashion exhibition April 17.
Carla Fernández: The Barefoot Designer: A Passion for Radical Design and Community, explores the traditions and techniques of Mexican artisans and how they can be applied to modern fashions and styles. Fernández is known for her method called “the Square Root,” which is based on a Mexican tradition of creating clothes from rectangles and squares. The exhibit will encompass not only her garments, but drawings, photographs, videos and source materials that help to showcase her multi-layered design process.
Running from April 17 – September 1, 2014, be sure to check out this exhibit next time you’re visiting Boston, as the museum itself is also worth a tour. Admission to the museum is $15 for adults and includes entrance to this exhibition.
