Beauty Trend to Try: Lips with a Punch

Change up your look with the simple swipe of a lipstick.

BrightLipsWhether you’re planning a cold city getaway or a beach vacation, sometimes the easiest way to brighten up your look is with a bold lip colour. On the Spring 2012 runways, there were plenty of fresh and playful choices from the orange hues at Rick Owens, Jeremy Laing to the bright pink shades at Nanette Lepore, Betsey Johnson and Nichole Farhi. Next time you’re jetting off, try incorporating a punchy lip colour into your travel ensemble. It’s the fastest and most compact way to change up your look.

1. NARS velvet lip gloss pencil in Mexican Rose, $24, narscosmetics.com.
This velvety, creamy lipstick pencil goes on with a consistency between gloss and lipstick. Easily one of our travel necessities beauty-wise, we stock up in multiple shades, but this bright pink is our go-to for a sun destination

2. Lancome L’Absolu Nu Lipstick in Beige de Soie, $35, lancome.ca.
This shade is perfect for a summery day, or tropical destination. In between a vibrant orange and a beige, you get a totally wearable coral hue that looks good on nearly everyone.

3. M.A.C. lipstick in So Chaud, $18, maccosmetics.com.
A reddish-orange hue, this lipstick is a great bold colour that will make your lips pop. Matte and long-lasting, it’s surprisingly a very friendly shade for almost every complexion.

4. Stila long wear liquid lip colour in Petal, $29, ebeauty.ca.
This matte formula will definitely help you to achieve that extreme runway beauty look. Not only does it totally stay put on your lips, it’s not drying at all. Once you apply, you just let it dry and you’re good to go.

5. Joe Fresh lip stain, grapefruit, $6, joefresh.com.
If you’re wanting to ease into the bold lip look, a stain is a great starting point. This version from Joe Fresh is not only affordable, but once you apply you’ll get a great pinky hue that won’t budge. And we also love the fruity scent too.

6. Tom Ford private blend lip color in Ginger Fawn, $35.
We always want to have a little bit of Tom Ford with us (sunglasses, fragrance, beauty, etc.), and when his lush line of lipsticks came to Canada, we didn’t mind the splurging on the $52 price tag, because we knew the colour and quality just couldn’t be matched. Available at Holt Renfrew.

7. Bobbi Brown sheer lip gloss in Cosmic Pink, $23, neimanmarcus.com.
A crazy neon hue in the tube, the colour you’ll actually get on your lips is more of a bright baby pink that is ultra-sheer. Another easy way to dip your toes into the bold lip pool without committing. Plus it’s also a great laying gloss over a matte lipstick.
