I know don’t about you, but we aren’t big fans of airport food selection (we’ll talk later about the best options when you are stuck). So to keep us from eating something unhealthy and unsatisfying, just to stop our stomachs from grumbling, we are firm believers in carrying snacks.
Portable snacks that must pass through security, not make a mess, not be easily squished, and are healthy, can be a challenge. The best carry-along foods we love toting are health bars. There are so many in the market to choose and all are not created equal. Two of our favourites are Larabar and The Simply Bar.
Larabars are great because they’re totally pure – no sweeteners, fillers, dairy or gluten. All they are is a blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts and spices. They offer 16 different flavours, including Apple Pie (which we love), Cashew Cookie and Banana Bread. Plus each contains only about 200 calories.
The Simply Bar was developed by a Canadian woman who couldn’t find a protein bar without tons of sugar, fat and other processed stuff. What we love about The Simply Bar is how much protein it has. On average their bars contains 16g of the tummy-filling stuff, which comes from soy. The bar is also low in calories (about 140) and currently comes in five flavours, including our faves Cinnamon and Chocolate Peanut Butter.
Stash a few in your suitcase too, because who doesn’t need a snack on hand after hours touring or shopping around a city! Look for them in the organic section of your grocery store or specialty health stores.
