Adding a second beach destination to its roster that already includes NYC and Turks & Caicos, the Gansevoort Hotel Group is expanding into the Caribbean with the opening of their fourth hotel — the Gansevoort Playa Imbert — in the Dominican Republic on December 15, 2014.
Found on the island’s north coast, the property will feature 48 suites comprised of one and two-bedroom lofts, three-bedroom apartments with plunge pools, and terraces, as well as a collection of four-bedroom penthouses with rooftop Jacuzzis. All the more reason to plan a big group getaway.
“Gansevoort prides itself on bringing a whole new level of service and amenities to emerging destinations,” said Gansevoort founder and president, Michael Achenbaum in a recent press release. “From Playa Imbert to Cabarete, we love the vibe and beauty of the north coast and believe there’s a unique opportunity to create something truly special for the luxury market here.”
Additional highlights include the resort’s 3-tiered cascading infinity pool overlooking the beach; Baia Lounge, serving up Mediterranean and Asian-inspired fare created by Executive Chef Giancarlo Fiori, whose credits include the Peninsula House and the 3-Michelin star restaurant El Bulli in San Sebastian Spain; and the downstairs La Cantina Wine + Cigar Cellar.
The hotel is planning additional amenities including a fitness centre, a world-class day spa featuring a Hammam-style sauna, and a meditation and yoga garden.
Only 15 minutes from the Puerto Plata Airport (POP), means you’ll have even more precious time on the beach.
