High/Low: How to Look Chic on an Airplane

High/Low: How to Look Chic on an Airplane

Go for comfort and versatility when it comes to your airplane look.

Our philosophy for travelling in style is simple — comfort and versatility. This however, doesn’t mean stretchy pants you plan on doing yoga in. We’re talking about a great jacket you can use throughout your trip or a pair of flats that are comfortable enough to wear wandering the city. For long-haul flights we tend to veer towards looser pieces — such as a sweater dress over leggings — but for 5 hours or less a proper pair of trousers will do just fine (just avoid linen or silk so you don’t look like you forgot to take out the iron).

In the first of a new high/low series, we’ve decided to take one look and show you it two ways — one head-to-toe designer and the second, affordable options that are not only stylish, but won’t break your travel bank. So whether you decide to add a designer piece or two into your look or stay budget-friendly, you’ve got options.

DESIGNER PICKS

1. ALICE by Temperley Adelaide two-tone leather biker jacket, $995, NET-A-PORTER.COM
We will never tire of a great leather jacket (a piece we regularly travel in). We love the two-tone hues and the slightly cropped shape, perfect for layering.

2. Vince Nina in black, $295, piperlime.com
While we love our ballet flats, changing up the shape is an easy way to keep this shoe versatile and slightly more sophisticated.

3. Elizabeth & James Gold-plated limited edition Valenti Sunglasses, $540, ssense.com
Retro sunglasses starting making an appearance last summer and aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. We love a playful cat-eye shape, like this subtle version seen here, especially when gold accents are involved.

4. 3.1 Phillip Lim Scout small crossbody, $788, saksfifthavenue.com
If you’re in search of a new travel-friendly handbag to add to your collection, we suggest the bucket bag. Not only is it on-trend, it’s ultra-practical.

5. Kenzo Clouded leopard jacquard trousers, $415, matchesfashion.com
We’re not going to lie — we love black pants, but why not try a brightly hued trouser which can double-duty at cocktail hour paired with a great pair of heels, sheer white blouse and statement necklace.

UNDER $100

6. Mango Combi blazer, $100, shop.mango.com
Like a leather jacket, a blazer is a travel-friendly option that lets you look polished, quickly dressing up a pair of jeans or basic trouser.

7. Aldo Dobrus flat, $65, aldoshoes.com
A basic black, pointy toe flat that is as practical as it is comfortable.

8. ASOS Metal top cat eye sunglasses, $21, asos.com
Love the cat-eye look, but would rather keep the price cheap and cheerful? We suggest this cute pair from ASOS.

9. David Jones bucket bag, $65, holiday.ca
A designer-inspired bucket bag, we love the hue and the drawstring closure.

10. Topshop Fluro jacquard Trousers, $85, topshop.com
Similar to the Kenzo pants, these neon lace pants definitely make a statement.
