Waxing is one of those pre-beach vacation rituals that are a necessary evil. For those of you who haven’t got a professional bikini wax before, let us tell you, it’s worth it. Yes, at home is possible (and we’ve done it), but it takes longer, is kind of messy and has its limitations (as in don’t do a Brazilian at home). Your best bet it to head to a salon that specializing in waxing, to ensure you get the best results, especially if you’re planning on a Brazilian wax.
We had the opportunity to experience the lightening fast Quickzilian Brazilian Bikini Wax from owner Alaa Abdullah of Allure Body Bar on the Danforth and know why it’s been voted as the best Brazilian Wax in Toronto. Fast and practically painless, it took only about 8 minutes from start to finish. The speed alone is worth it! Plus, the results last, meaning you’re not seeing any hairs grow back for at least a couple weeks.
To find out more about the “Quickzilian,” and how to make sure your treatment is as painless as possible, we got the scoop from Alaa.
How would you convince someone who’s never got a professional bikini wax before, why they should go for it?
We have all heard of horror stories associated with bikini waxing, which is why at Allure Body Bar we have created a Quickzilian Brazilian Bikini Wax. It is really important to seek this service from a professional waxologist that does dozens of these bikini waxes a day. We provide this service in a clean environment with high quality products, ensuring great results with minimal pain. After the first wax of any body part, each session becomes less painful with longer lasting results. Once you have a bikini wax done it is an instant confidence boost, and the results are highly addictive leaving you with smooth skin and less irritation.
How do you decide what “style” of bikini waxing to do? What is the most popular right now?
There are many different styles of bikini waxes to choose from at Allure Body Bar depending on your comfort level. Our waxologists will do a consultation with each client to pick the right style for their needs. No matter what style of bikini wax you start with, our clients all seem to gravitate to our signature “Quickzilian.” We also have many design options to choose from that can be incorporated into the Quickzilian like a love triangle or simply squeaky clean. After the first bikini wax, many of our clients say they wished they had done it sooner.
After care is super important, what do you recommend for preventing ingrown hairs, etc?
There are a few things we recommend for post care to prevent ingrown hairs. The most important tip we highly recommend is to scrub 24-48 hours after a wax session. It is key to scrub at least 4-5 times a week to prevent ingrown hairs and bumps. Something as simple as using a sugar based scrub with an exfoliating glove will really help the waxed area. If your skin has scars caused by ingrown hairs we also have a medicated roll-on that can help fade scars and quicken the healing process.
With winter many people will suffer with dry, flakey skin which adds to the ingrown hair problem. We suggest using a petroleum free lotion that won’t clog your pores after a wax and will keep your skin hydrated with longer lasting results.
What’s your best advice for making waxing as painless as possible?
To make your waxing session as painless as possible we suggest a few things. The first pre wax tip is to make you don’t over think the process; our nerves play a big role so it’s important to stay calm. For women we suggest getting a wax right after they finish their monthly visit from Mother Nature.
If it’s your first time getting waxed or if it’s been a while since your last appointment, we suggest taking two pain killers 30 minutes before your appointment. If you’re still a little nervous after this, you can arrive to your appointment 30 minutes early and add a numbing cream to your service. Oh – and the most important tip we can give is to not shave or use hair removal creams between your appointments. Shaving makes the hair stronger which can lead to your wax session hurting more. Also, you should schedule a waxing appointment every 4-6 weeks, this allows less hair to grow back and leads to more painless wax sessions.
