The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is set to be the first museum to celebrate the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) with IMPACT: 50 Years of the CFDA. Running from February 10 until April 20, 2012, this special exhibition will feature about 100 garments and accessories designed by some of the CFDA’s most successful creators of the last 50 years including Halston, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, Tom Ford, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Rodarte and Proenza Schouler, to name just a few. The exhibition will be arranged thematically, highlighting everything from sportswear to couture evening-wear. Another part of the exhibition will be visual images and acknowledgements of nearly 600 designers who have been members. A selection of designers have also been asked to present a single object or ensemble they think best represents his or her impact on the fashion world.

Another bonus to this exhibition is the visually stunning companion book, which will include more than 500 photographs, documenting the CFDA’s evolution to their educational programs and awards ceremonies. Can’t wait? You can pre-order the book now on Amazon.
