As much as we love restaurant week, we always look forward to the arrival of Spa Week! A bi-annual event that runs in April and October, the event is aimed at expanding access to the spa and wellness lifestyle by offering $50 spa treatments. The rule is all participating spas must offer at least two to three full-service treatments, such as facials or massages (we’re talking a full 50-minutes, not just a 20-minute taste).
This year spa week runs from April 21-27 and includes hundreds of spas across Canada and the U.S. In Canada, some of the spa’s we were excited to see on the list include the luxurious spa inside the Trump Hotel Toronto, Holt’s Salon & Spa, as well as the eforea: spa at Hilton (read our review), which we experienced very recently to much delight.
If you’re heading across the border, we suggest trying any of these amazing spas like the ELLE Spa in Miami Beach, the Red Door Spa at The Chatwal New York, The Peninsula Spa in Chicago or Jurlique in Santa Monica.
For spa newbies remember to keep in mind:
- Arrive at least 15 minutes early. There’s nothing less relaxing than being rushed and you’ll also need to fill out forms if you’re getting a facial or massage treatment.
- Leave your valuable at home. Often you’ll need to remove jewellery when receiving certain treatments, so instead of worrying about them getting lost or misplaced, just don’t bring any.
- Speak up. Most therapists are mindful of your comfort, but be sure to speak up if you need something adjusted, whether that’s the temperature of the room or the pressure used during a massage.
- Tip properly. Even though you’re receiving a discounted price, the etiquette is to tip 15-20% on the original price of the treatment. While tipping is never mandatory, a tip indicates your contentment with the service.
And remember, book as soon as possible. Prime slots will fill up quickly.
