The Ritz-Carlton Montreal re-opened its doors May 28, 2012, after an extensive $200-million restoration. Once an A-list destination, seeing the likes of celebrities and royalty including Elizabeth Taylor, Mordecai Richler, Marlene Dietrich and the Queen Mother, by the time 2008 came around, the once luxurious destination required a much-needed update.
From the building’s facade to the lobby and the famed garden, all of the hotel’s iconic rooms were preserved and restored. According to hotel officials, no effort was spared to bring the latest amenities, while ensuring its past splendor was not lost.
Featuring 98 guest rooms and 31 suites, some of the amenities we’re particularly excited about are the intuitive thermostats that remember your preferences upon check-in; the eco-friendly motion sensor lighting system; a salt water swimming pool heated with excess heat from the hotel’s kitchen and a herb garden terrace used by the hotel’s restaurant.
Also new to the hotel is the Maison Boulud restaurant, run by acclaimed chef Daniel Boulud and a Tiffany & Co. jewellery boutique. Excited as we are to check in? A deluxe room starts at about $425/night.
