Soaking Up Life in Barbados

Soaking Up Life in Barbados

Travel & Style escaped Toronto’s cold weather for an extended weekend in the Caribbean.

Winter came earlier than expected this year, and by this we mean it came in the form of a gross snowstorm in the middle of the week. So, when our trip to attend the Food, Wine & Rum Festival in Barbados was finally here, we couldn’t have been more ecstatic to say goodbye to the snow and cold, and hello to warm, sunny beaches.

Going carry-on only with our favourite Rimowa suitcases, besides our iPhones and laptops, the only thing we never travel without are our American Express cards (we’re both obsessed with getting points —  with the end goal being more travel, of course).

The morning before our flight we started racking up our points with airplane essentials, like a mini breakfast, a massive bottle of water and reading material. We didn’t have enough time otherwise we could have done some damage at Duty Free. We love that you can actually save quite a bit on beauty products here.

Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate with us for the first half of our trip. It wasn’t the snow of Toronto, but it was a few days of solid rain thanks to a tropical storm. Although the rain forced us to cancel a catamaran, we decided to make the best of it! Luckily for us Barbados has Limegrove, a 100,000 square-foot mall with luxury brands and designers, plus curated fashion-forward boutiques. While you can’t change the weather, you can change your fun. Both of us left with the same (surprise!) evil eye bracelets.

Food is such a big part of travel, so getting to sample dishes made by celebrity chefs including Roger Mooking (who we met!), Anne Burrell and Ed Baines at the Food, Wine & Rum festival was part of why we were so eager to experience it and it was certainly a highlight of our trip.

For us, travel, food and shopping are the things we love to indulge in the most in life and luckily for us, we got to accomplish all three on our trip to Barbados.

We’d love you to share with us your most indulgent travel moments sharing with @AmexCanada and using the hashtag #AmexLife.
