At the centre of the pristinely manicured village of Bal Harbour is a destination in its own right — the Bal Harbour Shops. This luxury outdoor shopping mall is home to the best (and most recognizable) brands in the world including, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Prada, Harry Winston, Michael Kors and many more. Flanked by heavy-hitting department stores, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, sprinkled in the mall are also multi-brand boutiques including Scoop NYC, Intermix and the Miami-born The Webster, known for their beautifully presented and expertly curated designer pieces.

Don’t be surprised if you spend the day expanding your wardrobe, in fact plan for it. There are a handful of places to refuel at including two restaurants that never fail to disappoint. During lunch hours, the hottest ticket is without a doubt, Carpaccio. Located right beside valet parking, it’s a prime people-watching destination. For dinner, make a reservation at the sleek and modern Japanese restaurant, Makoto and prepare to be wowed.

Chances are your focus will be on clothing and accessories, but for those in need of a quick beauty treatment or pick-me-up, should make a visit to Gee Beauty. This modern makeup and skincare company has its roots in Toronto, but quickly expanded to beautiful Bal Harbour, a destination close to the owners hearts. Here you’ll find brands like Oribe, SkinCeuticals, Glamglow and Tata Harper, and treatments ranging from the Gee Beauty Brow ($35) to The Ultimate Oxygen facial ($155) that will have you leaving with a serious glow.

Located on Collins Avenue, right across from the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort, there’s quite a long history to the mall, which opened in 1965 despite experts scoffing at the upscale retail positioning. Today there’s a long waiting list of luxury brands vying for a spot inside and the mall is considered one of the most “productive” in terms of sales per square foot. With this in mind, plans for an expansion are in the mall’s foreseeable future, with the possibility of 40 more retail spaces including a third anchor store.

Whether you’re on the hunt for a new designer piece or something completely unique, this is the place to find it. In addition to having the entire roster of high-end labels in the mall, you’ll also find the latest off-the-runway pieces and  are often rare one-of-a-kind pieces are delivered straight to the brand’s found in this mall. Even if you don’t have a limitless budget, you will find sales racks here and there, so saving a few pennies can still happen. Your best bet? Focus on finding the most in-demand, upcoming season piece you want and chances are it will be waiting for you right here.
