Last year we picked 8 incredible honeymoon destinations (one of which our co-editor Jenn visited for her own honeymoon!). This year we decided to enlist the help of a few travel experts, who share their top picks for honeymooning in 2013, in addition to selecting our own must-visit places too.
Destination: French Polynesia
Moorea and Bora Bora in French Polynesia are always a popular choice but they are also expensive. Some good alternatives are Fiji, Cook Islands, Hawaii, or Pangkor Laut Island in Malaysia, which you could combine with a trip to southern or northern Thailand. All of these destinations will give you that romantic island getaway so many couples are looking for on their honeymoon. — Johnny Jet, johnnyjet.com

Destination: South Africa
Ok, I’m a little biased. I went there just a few months ago as a portion of my own honeymoon! But I was blown away by the beauty, the hospitality and the food. South Africa has a bit of everything, making it ideal for couples who don’t want to only veg out on a beach. You can have an action packed trip with safaris, mountain climbing and biking. Or go totally romantic touring through the Winelands just outside Cape Town, and driving the stunning Garden Route along the Western Cape. And there are plenty of beaches to completely unwind throughout the Western Cape and into the resort town of Durban. Not to mention the service at the hotels has to be hands down some of the best service in the world. With the fuss over the World Cup a few years ago finally fizzled, South Africa is the perfect place for honeymooners who love adventure with their romance. — Jennifer Weatherhead Harrington
Hotel Pick: Gondwana Game Reserve (gondwanagr.co.za/)
Heuningkip Farm, R327 Mossel Bay 6500, South Africa

Destination: Montenegro
With my own wedding coming up later this year I definitely am in honeymoon mode and while researching beach destinations in Europe discovered the unspoilt beauty of Montenegro. Described as Croatia without the crowds, it’s all about laid-back beauty here. Found in the south of the Adriatic, there are unspoilt beaches, gorgeous mountains and tons of history. Accommodations-wise I’m eying the luxurious Aman Sveti Stefan located right on the coast on the tiny islet of Sveti Stefan. Here we’ll be able to take in the sun on the pink sand beach, relax with a spa treatment in one of the cottages, or dine on local seafood in the intimate The Dining Room. Outside of the hotel, we have the option to check out some nearby vineyards, rent a bikes and check out the nearby villages or drive up to Kotor, listed by UNESCO as a “World Natural and Historical Heritage Site.” — Stephanie Gray
