This past weekend were the not-so-secret nuptials of George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin in Venice, Italy, a destination he loves (he owns a home in Laglio on Lake Como) and it's the place where he has said the two met. It made perfect sense then for the pair to wed in such a gorgeous place. But where did everything take place? At the best of the best, of course. Here's a rundown of the hotels where it all went down.
The Belmond Hotel Cipriani
George Clooney is no stranger to this hotel having stayed here for more than a handful of times over the past 15 years. He reportedly addresses all of the staff by name and has been known to get behind the bar to mix cocktails. He even helped create two custom cocktails with the head barman that you can order off the menu.
The Palladio Suite at the Cipriani
This was the luxurious suite where Clooney spent his last night as a bachelor. This suite boasts breathtaking 180-degree vistas, a private terrace complete with jacuzzi and plunge pool. Luxury like this doesn't come cheap. Rates for this suite are about $11,534 CAD per night.
ORO Restaurant at the Cipriani
Designed by Adam Tihany and under the direction of chef Davide Bisetto, ORO Restaurant is the newest dining destination at the Cipriani and played a part in the weekend's festivities.
Guests Travelled by Water Taxi
As you would expect, the mode of transportation was water taxi. Guests took the hotel's exclusive water taxi to get from one hotel to the other. Many of Clooney's guests, including Emily Blunt, Anna Wintour, Bono, Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber (who was the best man), stayed at the Cipriani and took the water taxi to the Aman Canal Grande where the wedding ceremony took place.
Aman Canal Grande Hotel
The actual wedding ceremony took place at the seven-star Aman Canal Grande Hotel. Opened just a year ago, it has the ambiance of a private palazzo and is extremely opulent inside with its classic frescos, silk wall hangings, Murano chandeliers and high ceilings. Built in 1550, there is a royal heritage to the building, which was Vera Papadopoli Alborandini’s dowry when she married Count Giberto Arrivabene at the end of the 19th century.
The Alcova Tiepolo Suite at the Aman Hotel
One of the hotel's five signature rooms includes the stunning Alcova Tiepolo suite named after Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, the painter who did the room's ceiling art. The pair reportedly stayed the night here on their wedding night. Rates for the room start at $5,164 CAD per night.
