Trend to Try: Retro-Inspired Sunglasses

Unique sunglass shapes to wear all-year round.

We love the summer because it’s always the time of year that we’re always on the go — whether it’s travelling up to the cottage or for a girls weekend getaway — we’re hankering to escape the heat of the city. When it comes to our summer travel wardrobe, sunglasses are at the top of our must-pack list. The best part is it’s one of those accessories you don’t have to spend a fortune on — although it’s nice to have a classic splurge pair you can count on. For this summer it’s all about unique shapes — retro-inspired looks like the cat-eye, to oversized shades with colourful frames — no shape is off limits. We found 6 different sunglasses we think you’ll want to include try wearing this summer.

1. Super Sunglasses Lucia sunglasses, $173, shopbop.com.
These round frames have a ’60s flair to them and we love the blue acetate frames that make them a bit modern. If you have a square-shaped face, you can definitely pull off a round style like these, since it will actually help soften your face’s angular features.

2. Topshop Bright Jelly Sunglasses, $32, topshop.com.
These turquoise shades are on-trend with the pastels seen everywhere from denim to makeup. It’s a way to wear the colour trend without being too shocking either.

3. Stella McCartney Round-frame acetate sunglasses, $225, net-a-porter.com.
Inspired by exotic destinations, these Stella McCartney shades have a Eastern-inspired feel, which we love. Even if you’re staying on this side of the globe, you can at least feel well-travelled sporting these.

4. Aldo ‘Lellig’ sunglasses, $12, aldoshoes.com.
An oversized pair of round frames are never a bad choice. Try a coloured frame for a bit more interest, like this Aldo pair in orange. Flatting on pretty much every face shape, since you’re not breaking the bank with them you can take them to the beach without a worry.

5. Asos Half Rim Highbrow Cat Eye Sunglasses, $27, asos.com.
There is nothing that says retro like the cat eye sunglasses made popular in the ’70s. The frames on these make such a statement we love.

6. Marc by Marc Jacobs Striped sunglasses, $98, marcjacobs.com.
Who says your lenses need to be dark? We are crazy about the pink lenses on these shades, which have a slight cat-eye shape. Best part is it’s flatting on basically everyone.
