One activity that tops our vacation to-do list is a trip to the museum. We love exploring new and old favourites like NYC’s MET, The Art Institute of Chicago or even the close-to-home AGO. But the ultimate city for museum hopping has to be Paris. From the world-renowned Louvre, to the Musée Rodin, beautifully housed in a mansion fit for a king, you’ll find 204 museums in this city clearly in love with art. With the Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs exhibit now on at the museum of Les Arts Décoratifs, there’s even more of a reason to start planning a trip. Not sure what to wear during your gallery visits? We pick chic and wearable pieces to complete your ensemble.
1. Gat Rimon Odessa top, 105 EUR, gatrimon-eshop.com.
We first heard about this Parisian line during our visit to Dalston Grey. Delicate and feminine, this blouse will look great dressed up or down and what better way to look the part than by wearing a French designer?
2. Herve Van der Straeten crossover cuff, $315, neimanmarcus.com.
Since you’ll be staring at art all day, why not decorate yourself in an sculptural cuff that is a piece of art in itself. Overlapping bands, a hammered finish and 24-karat vermeil, you won’t want to take it off.
3. Topshop snake twist lock bag, $50, topshop.com.
Thanks to the snake-like texture, this coral cross-body bag looks much more pricier than it actually is. Between carrying a museum map, audio guide or camera, you’ll want to keep your hands free.
4. MICHAEL Michael Kors Ikat-print silk-blend pants, $175, net-a-porter.com.
It doesn’t get much more comfortable than pajama dressing, which is why we think these tribal-inspired printed pants are the perfect piece for museum hopping. Scared of wearing prints? Try a solid top to tone things down.
5. Estée Lauder Mad Men Collection limited edition lipstick in cherry, $25, esteelauder.com.
When we heard Estée Lauder was coming out with a Mad Men collection we thought, “Finally!” A bright red lip will add to your French chic ensemble and absolutely can’t go wrong with this gorgeous shade.
6. Jason Wu for Target pleated skirt, $30, target.com.
What’s not to love about Jason Wu? We were particularly excited when we heard about this collaboration and have been eying plenty of pieces including this pleated skirt which will go with everything from a simple tee to a printed blouse.
7. J. Crew Willa suede platform wedge in apricot mist, $230, jcrew.com.
Why does it always seem to be that when it comes to shoes you have to choose between comfort and style? Thankfully wedges are here for at least another season and come to the rescue once again. Now you can walk all day without cursing your feet.
8. T. Babaton Fleming blazer in emerald, $225, aritzia.com.
Museums can often be drafty, so keeping on a layer is never a bad idea. We love a bold blazer, like this solid green version from Canadian line T. Babaton.
9. Gap neon elastic belt, $20, gapcanada.ca.
Whether you need it for style or function, there’s always a good reason to have a skinny belt around. Pair this with the white Gat Rimon blouse and black pleated skirt and you’re ready to start touring the Louvre.
