One of our favourite weekend getaways is a quick trip to New York City. And, of course, while we’re there we love to indulge in a little retail therapy. Shopping in NYC involves lots of store hopping and hitting the streets, so we opt for feminine pieces that are also comfortable and easy to wear. They’re also necessities when we pack for a weekend trip to any city. Here are our top picks this spring for shopping in NYC.
1. Sandro Eldorado silk top, $305, net-a-porter.com.
Whether it’s paired with black skinny pants, jeans, or a pretty skirt, a bright casual blouse is always at the top of our list.
2. J. Crew Encore cotton twill trench coat, $400, jcrew.com.
Since we’re in the middle of winter and spring, you never know when a rain shower will happen, or how chilly it could be once the sun disappears. That’s why we love travelling with a classic trench. It’s versatile and never goes out of style.
3. Rachel Zoe Isabel leather shopper, $565, shopbop.com.
We are crushing on this Rachel Zoe tote right now! Even if it’s not in our wardrobe yet (maybe we’ll pick one up on our next NYC trip?), the shape, colour and size caught our eye for a shopping day. It’s just big enough to tuck a bottle of water, a makeup bag and emergency flats (if you’re in heels).
4. Forever 21 curved bangle set, $10, forever21.com.
Our favourite way to add a punch of colour to our spring wardrobe is with brightly-hued cuffs, bangles and bracelets. And the price of these gems can’t be beat!
5. Topshop gray boyfriend blazer, $120, topshop.com.
Another item we never travel without is a classic blazer. This neutral toned Topshop find provides a bit of warmth and coverage and will work with any outfit combination.
6. J Brand Jeans 912 low-rise pencil-leg jean, $185, jbrandjeans.com.
Skinny black denim is a wardrobe staple, and always in our bag when we travel. They’re ideal for shopping during the day with a flirty top and flats, and throw on some heels and a blouse for dinner out post-shopping excursion.
7. Nine West Itsonn silver wedge, $120, ninewest.com.
If we were only hitting one or two stores, we’d opt for a heel. But for a full-day of shopping, we prefer flats that are chic, comfy and perfect for strolling the streets.
8. Vero Moda couture trend skirt, $49, thebay.com.
With the weather warming up we just had to include a light, floaty skirt. Paired with a brightly coloured top, it’s a great casual spring combo.
