What to Wear to a Destination Wedding

DestinationWedding

There’s never a better excuse for getting away than getting an invite to a destination wedding — and even better if it’s a destination that’s hot and sunny. If you’ve already RSVP’d and can’t wait to get packing, we’ve rounded up a handful of essentials you’ll want to bring to your tropical destination. Hot date not included.

1. Zimmermann Hawaiian printed bandeau bikini, $245
Hawaii-bound or not, consider wearing a colourful bikini on the beach. The bandeau style is great too, if you’re not into tan lines (although we don’t suggest baking out in the sun without some sunscreen). Thankfully this suit also comes with a detachable halter strap, so you don’t have to worry about adjusting every two seconds if you’re planning in participating in some water volleyball or just want to dive in the pool! Available at net-a-porter.com.

2. B. Kamins lip balm with SPF 20, $21
You’ve no doubt packed sunscreen for your body, but one place on your body that can be easily overlooked are your lips. We’re huge fans of this moisturizing lip balm from B. Kamins, which can also help you compact cracked, burned or chapped lips. Wear it under your favourite lipgloss or lipstick for SPF protection plus a little colour. Available at eBeauty.ca.

3. Dannijo Bekah necklace, $520
We can’t believe we only recently discovered New York-based jewellery line Dannijo. Their style is part rocker, part boho and every piece is something you’ll definitely cherish. We think this Bekah necklace would be the perfect accessory for your wedding day guest ensemble. Pair it with a maxi dress and you’re done. Available at dannijo.com.

4. Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent flutter sleeve maxi dress, $297
Assuming the dress code is cocktail casual, this tie-dyed inspired maxi dress would be the perfect option. With colours inspired by tropics, the top is chiffon and the skirt jersey, making for a very comfortable evening. Considering the beach is often a very windy place to say “I do” you’ll be pleasantly happy not to keep having to adjust yourself throughout the cocktail hour. Available at shopbop.com.

5. J. Crew panama hat, $68
En route to the beach or just strolling around the resort, a cute tomboyish hat like this one from J. Crew adds a simple touch to your look and protects you from the sun too. Available at jcrew.com.

6. Bumble and Bumble surf spray, $23
Keep that “I just was in the ocean all day” look going with this surf spray from Bumble and Bumble. You’ll get the best results if you use a diffuser, it also helps to give fine hair some texture, but works best on wavy locks. Available in stores at Sephora and bumbleandbumble.com.

7. Ela M.I.L.C.K. clutch in purple suede, $280
Made just big enough to fit all of your essentials, but not too big it overwhelms, we love this pretty purple envelope-style clutch from Canadian designer Ela Kowalewska. Available at boutiques across Canada and thecode.ca.

8. Prada sunglasses, $475
Sunglasses aren’t just an essential when it comes to tropical getaways, they’re a travel must all-year round. When we spotted these ivory Prada shades it was love at first sight. With gradient lenses, the shape is particularly flattering on those with oval or square shape faces. Available at sunglasshut.com.

9. Aldo Hartstein sandals in turquoise, $50
Don’t even think about wearing heels to a beach wedding ceremony. Well you could, but you’ll have to take them off or risk sinking and falling on the sand. Instead, try a cute pair of flat sandals like these ones from Aldo with a sweet bow on the front. Available at aldoshoes.com.
