What: Semana Santa
Where:
Seville, Spain
When: March 20 to 27
Why you must go now:
If you happen to be in Spain over Easter (and why not!) be sure to check out this historic Holy Week parade, one of the most lavish and grand celebrations in the city all year. Travellers flock from all over the country and across the globe to behold the truly majestic display: throughout the week, teams of “costaleros” (bearers) carry giant “pasos” (floats) throughout the streets from their respective parishes. These floats are religious works of art dating back to the 17th century and each makes up a part of the Easter story. Two spectacular floats can also be found in the Basílica de la Macarena and the Basílica de Jesús del Gran Poder.

What: Charlotte Brontë at the Soane
Where: Sir John Soane’s Museum, London
When: March 15 to May 7
Why you must go: A tribute to the the English writer 200 years after she was born, this new exhibit commemorates the life of the Jane Eyre author through some of her most treasured belongings. The beloved Victorian novelist spent much of her life in relative obscurity in Yorkshire, but made five trips to London to visit her publisher in her lifetime. These prominent trips make up the core of the exhibit, and her personal belongings, including the guidebook she used to navigate the capital city in the 1840s, as well as newly discovered sketches of the Brontë sisters — drawn by their sister Anne — will be on display at the museum during the free exhibit.

What: Toronto Fashion Week
Where: David Pecaut Square, Toronto
When: March 14 to 18
Why you must go: To see some of Canada’s finest homegrown heroes, from Edmonton-born designer Sid Neigum to local stalwarts David Dixon and Greta Constantine, who is returning to the Toronto runways after debuting their Fall 2016 collection at Paris Fashion Week. It’s one of the most fashionable weeks in the city — for seeing the runway looks and watching the street style-set parading outside of the tents. Tickets are available for purchase to the public.

What: Long Beach Irish Heritage Parade & Festival
Where: Los Angeles, CA
When: Saturday March 1
Why you must go: If you can’t make it to Ireland this year to celebrate your Irish pride, may we suggest sunny California as a viable alternative? The lively parade route stretches across six blocks and features 50 floats and bands. And you may want to stop at the local breweries along the way.

What: The northern lights in Lofoten Islands
Where: Northern Norway
When: Until late March
Why you must go now: Said to be one of the best spots to view the celestial light display at nightfall, the Northern parts of Norway play host to the aurora between late September and late March. This means your best chance of spotting the majestic lights in Lofoten Islands (or in Trøndelag, 500 km north) is right now!
