Vancouver’s hotel scene has had its usual mainstays over the past five years or so. Classics and big names come to mind, but when we had the opportunity to make a visit to a newly opened, boutique hotel near Yaletown, we jumped at the chance.
Hotel Belmont used to actually be a Comfort Inn. You’d never know it by the brightly coloured and textured exterior, the funky little lobby area or the cozy, chic and unique rooms. But it’s prime location right next to Yaletown and in the historic entertainment district makes this “cute but devilish inside” hotel the perfect opportunity for something on the hip side.
Each room is slightly different with an eclectic vibe that’s both cool and vibrant at the same time. They’re also decked out with unique touches… a banana lamp, a palm tree lamp, different pieces of art… all make it feel very boutique and very much like you’re in someone’s home as opposed to a hotel. Those small touches allow Hotel Belmont to feel fresh, new and totally hipster-modern while still being comfortable. While the rooms vary in size and layout,
The on-site restaurant, aptly named The Living Room for it’s cozy vibes and lounge-y sofas, also offer up Instagram-worthy decor and settings. From pink walls and chairs lining the bar, to flamingo wallpaper, if Instagram is your jam, this is the new spot in Vancouver to get your latest snap.
We’ll say this about the restaurant, the food is not only delicious, but the staff went above and beyond too. Normally when you order a salad minus the meat (vegetarian, over here!), you still get charged the same amount of money. If you want to make a substitute, you actually end up paying more. That’s typical when it comes to ordering vegetarian options. But at the Belmont, not only was staff quick to offer suggestions on making dishes more veggie friendly, but they reduced the price of our salad because they removed the chicken.
But what else makes this hotel high on the cool scale is the fact that everyone working there is like your insider to all things amazing in the city. They take pride in knowing the hippest haunts, hidden gems, newly opened joints. All which makes your stay feel even more personalized… which at the end of the day, is one thing we absolutely love about a hotel… a personal touch.
