Post-Pandemic Travel Tips #1: Check Your Passport

Before you even start booking anything outside of Canada, check your passport expiration date.

  • Many countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months to enter
  • Many others also require that you have at least 2 empty pages
  • Current wait times to get your Canadian passport renewed are slow. If you apply via mail to renew your passport, it will take a minimum of 25 business days. If you apply in person, you need to book an appointment online and set up an appointment, so you want to be prepared!

Post-Pandemic Travel Tips #2: Know What Test You Need to Get

You must present a negative COVID test taken no more than 72 hours in advance for most countries. And You must also show proof of vaccination for most countries.

Some like the US allow Rapid Antigen Tests, which is far less invasive than a PCR and can be done by a pharmacist. Results are usually same day, PCR tests are more expensive and take about 48 hours. Make sure you book your appointment in advance so you have enough time prior to your trip. NOTE the US doesn’t require you to be vaccinated, just tested.

Post-Pandemic Travel Tips #3: You Need More Time At The Airport

Airlines recommend that you give yourself extra time at the airport for screening processes. An example would be 3 hours before to travel to the US when it used to be be a recommended 2 hours. You may have additional forms to fill out, but still try to check in online to reduce touch points — you will need to upload your negative test and or proof of vaccination when you check in online depending on the airline!
